Salary:  c£75,000 + Bonus + Pension


A newly created role now exists for a Manufacturing Operations Manager for an established market leader, designing and manufacturing metal components, assembling and installing precision machinery. The Company engineer precision components to tight tolerances and offer sub-contract machining services to niche markets.  Also, producing high value capital equipment, their processes include milling, turning and grinding and ideally applicants will be well versed in low to medium volume and bespoke production and assembly processes.  Having been recently acquired by a global Group, this business is in transition moving ultimately towards a world class manufacturing operation and you will lead the site manufacturing team guiding its strategic direction.


Reporting to the MD, the Manufacturing Operations Manager will establish and lead the Site Operational Improvement Plan with focus on safety embedded in the 6S implementations, planning and short interval control of each area focussing all stakeholders on Right First Time and On Time Delivery. Leading, managing and motivating a team across Machine Shop Production and Assembly Departments your remit is to develop Purchasing, Materials and Production Planning. The facility operates a double shift pattern 7 days a week and you will need to plan workforce and plant capacity to meet the demands of the customer base. The plant operates batch production and special project work, so changeovers are frequent and involve careful planning and scheduling.  You will plan production and be used to adapting to changing schedules and customer priorities.


Apprentice or BSc/BEng qualified ideally in Science or Engineering with a strong background in Plant / Production / Assembly / Manufacturing / Production Planning / Purchasing in a world class environment practising operational excellence and ISO accredited.  Experience in Machine Shop management is preferred, ideally Six Sigma green belt qualified with a very strong appreciation of continual improvement and Lean.


You will be a charismatic leader, a strategic yet hands-on production specialist who will get involved and lead from the front, providing problem solving capability and nurturing teamwork and cross-functional cooperation to enable a smooth-running production facility.


Communicating regularly with your functional teams, you will be aware of any situations that are likely to have an impact on the production targets including OTD, RFT or Quality. Having a best practice ethos, able to work to QCD measures, you will be highly data driven, capable of producing reports and presentations to management liaising with Maintenance, Process Engineering, Quality, HR & Finance.


The successful candidate will be able to manage upwards and have a proven ability to motivate and lead a team, achieving buy-in to any required change and engagement via clear communication and influencing skills. You will possess excellent people-management and mentoring skills, with the ability to support and develop staff in an evolving culture in a period of significant change.


You will be customer focussed and able to hit the ground running in order to improve OTIF and OEE. Driven by results you will possess a flexible attitude, able to deliver change and strive for continual improvement in all areas of the business. As an effective Agent of Change, always striving for sky high performance, you will possess a good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and general HR processes and procedures.
