We are proud to represent a leading international designer and manufacturer of precision engineered solutions as a vacancy now exists for a Mechanical Design Engineer. Our client produces specialist bespoke niche capital equipment products to multiple sectors, components for varied applications across industries, manufacturing services and solutions within the sub-contract market. The Role:

To develop conceptual and detailed designs that ensure the product functions, performs and is fit for purpose. Working with Marketeers and Production Engineers to develop the product concept and specifications to meet customer needs and introduce to manufacture, you will report to the Engineering Lead and be responsible for:

  • Producing product designs, detailed engineering, assembly drawings for manufacturing, performing lab testing for verification and conformance of design outputs to meet the design inputs
  • Working with the team to perform classical engineering analysis on designs including stress, fatigue and vibration using conventional analysis and computer simulation you will use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model and evaluate key variables within a product using software such as ‘Ansys’
  • Producing accurate bill of materials from the design stage ensuring materials are specified correctly and are suitable for the job you will apply design for cost, performance, manufacturability and service
  • Liaising with the Sales Team/Customers/Suppliers/Employees on design specifications to see NPI and improvement projects through to completion, you will integrate into the Engineering work stream all required procedures during the development stages. These to include Specification Documents, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, (FMEA), Process Routings and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Providing support during the building and installation process, ensuring that the product is built properly and according to design specifications
  • Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, tolerancing key parts to ensure complex assemblies fit together correctly
  • Controlling design through a controlled and authorised system (PMD Vault)

 

The Person:

Educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering (BSc/BEng), Materials or in a Science related discipline such as Physics, with a proven track record in Mechanical Design Engineering, within the Manufacturing / Engineering/  Design Consultancy industry sectors.  More specifically you will have:

  • A deep understanding of Computer Aided Design Packages (Solidworks/AutoCAD) and the use of Finite Element Analysis to model key variables within a product using software such as ‘Ansys’
  • With a good understanding of different machining methods and how materials perform under machining conditions such as milling, turning and grinding, you will be familiar with and understand metal finishing techniques and applications such as plating and anodising
  • With a background in designing electro-mechanical products, you will be creative yet structured in your approach to developing new products
  • A naturally inquisitive person and problem solver, you will understand root cause analysis in depth, be analytical yet displaying well-honed communication skills
  • You will be a team player and be a positive individual with a ‘can do’ attitude
